The alarm about the accident came in at 11.
– It’s a Rolls-Royce aircraft engine that exploded during a demonstration run, says a spokesperson for the event’s organizer, the Åkerihistoriska sälläket.
According to the police, between 200 and 300 people are at the motorcycle event.
– Three people are injured and taken care of by the ambulance service. Everyone is awake and talkative, says Sören Gustavsson at SOS Alarm.
A total of five cars from the rescue service and four ambulances have been sent to Svartå. The police are also there.
– We are there and assist the rescue service, says police spokesperson Anders Dahlman.
Witness: Sprayed oil and flew stuff
The witness Mikael Karlsson was very close by when it rang.
– We stood and looked at the engine and then they were going to start it up, so we walked a few steps away. Then it exploded, he says.
– Oil was spraying and things were flying in all possible directions, so you’re glad you weren’t hit.
Everything happened so quickly that he didn’t have time to get scared, he says. But Mikael Karlsson’s son Ragnar says that he ducked and took cover when the explosion occurred.
– There should be more protection, that you block off all around, he thinks.
– An engine must have exploded and things flew 10-20 metres. There are six or seven ambulances here and as many fire trucks, says a person who is at the motor meet.
The police have started a preliminary investigation into causing danger to others and causing bodily harm. A technical investigation will be carried out.
