Since 2017, EU citizens have been able to surf in other EU countries without paying extra for roaming fees, which can otherwise be very expensive. The provision was to expire on June 30 this year, but has now been extended for another ten years, to at least 2032, reports Tech Crunch, among others.
New in this decision is that EU citizens should also have the right to the same quality and speed as in their home country, as far as possible. Travelers must also have access to the emergency number 112 via calls and text messages as well as location information at no extra cost.
The proposal for an extension has been on the table since 2021, but the formal decision was made only this week.
